Skinny Shaming- No Matter What, No body deserves to be Body Shamed
I have already addressed issues about fat-shaming in another blog, which is quite close to my heart.
I feel skinny people also have been shamed, like being called mean, bitchy, or self-centered. So, I need to address those issues too.
MY APOLOGIES!(My personal story)
I am sorry😓 |
One of those days, I was questioning my thoughts. I realized I always get upset when someone passes comments on my body. It has made me insecure. But, I was doing the same thing to others. I mean my friends. I was doing it to my friends. I commented on their bodies for fun and even laughed at it when others did. I felt horrible when I realized that. That day I stopped doing it consciously. Even though my friends continue to do even with me explaining it. It is part of growing and maturing and realizing how gross it is.
I just wanted to share this short story with you. I felt horrible. Yet, I wanted to share because it is so common among teens.
What is Skinny Shaming?
It is shaming someone for being too thin. Phrases often used for them are: Don't you eat? Do your parents feed you enough? If there is too much wind, you could fly off. You should wear a push-up bra! Your chest is the size of a lemon. How will you man like you if you have no curves?
Whenever someone says body shaming, people think of fat people. It is considered an insult or rude to body shame fat people. But it is still considered a joke to body shame skinny people.
Whenever we meet an old friend after a long time, the first thing they ask is how you have lost weight or how your fat tummy is sticking out. Why should someone do that? Losing weight or gaining weight can happen for more than just diet and exercise.
Especially after this covid, people might have lost or gained weight.
But, people need not comment on them. I understand some people want to show concern, which they can through other ways.
People who have experienced skinny shaming go through the same trauma similar to people who go through fat-shaming like developing body dysmorphia(not enjoying taking pics or constantly comparing their body with others), bad relationship with food, or exercise (like not eating or exercising in front of others), being bullied, losing self-confidence, etc
