Why is Skincare so costly?

Me and my pimple:Hey!

Skincare products is the most marketed and most expensive thing bought in monthly groceries. Surprisingly, we spend thousands of rupees on a single bottle.

"Less is more"

Skincare is pretty simple. Simple products can give you the same results as so-called branded cosmetics.

Skincare is personalized depending on the skin type

Here are some of the products that we use most commonly:

1. Moisturizer:

What exactly is the point of moisturizer?

It moisturizes the outer layer of skin. Dryness in the skin will make you look old. The day I knew about moisturizer, I went to the grocery and bought the first thing that said moisturizer. I didn't know cheap brands used toxins in their moisturizer back then. Toxins like fragrances, skin irritant chemicals(parabens, dimethicone, ceyle alcohol), etc.

Examples of natural toxin-free moisturizers are:

Kumkumadi

They are oil-based moisturizer that helps to brighten the skin, remove acne and scars, reduce dark circles, etc.

Aloe vera:

It has cooling properties. So, it helps remove blemishes, scars, moistures the skin, helps in anti-aging, etc.

Cold-pressed oil

Sesame oil and coconut oil helps moisturize the skin and are suitable for any skin type. Mustard oil helps reduce the dryness of the skin. It is fit for the winter season.

Lip balm/lip moisturizer: Ghee is best for moisturizing flaky lips. It also gives a glossy look which no lip balm can compete.

To look young without a moisturizer, you have to drink lots of water, eat healthily and exercise.

2. Sunscreen:

Why do we need sunscreen?

Sunbathing is needed to absorb vitamin d and increase immunity. In India, UV rays are high from 10am to 4 pm.

SPF is the time that the sunscreen will provide protection. For example, SPF 15 protects up to 150 mins.

Natural sunscreen is as effective as their chemical counterparts

Types of sunscreen: mineral-based and chemical-based

Mineral-based sunscreen

They use minerals like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide that leave a white coating on the skin. But it is better compared to long-term exposure to chemicals.

Chemical-based sunscreen

They use chemicals which is easy to apply.

The sunscreen available on the market has toxins like oxybenzone, fragrance, BHT, Methylisothiazolinone which gets absorbed by the skin. So, it is essential to add non-toxic chemicals.

 3. Perfume:

Our body has a natural scent. So technically, if you keep yourself clean, you won't need perfume.

The common toxins of perfume are ethyl alcohol, propylene glycol, DEP. It gets absorbed by the skin through the clothes.

Because of their toxicity, some people have trouble breathing them or may even experience vomiting. Have you ever experienced suffocation while smelling perfume?

It should sound like a spa when you read the ingredients like shea butter, essential oils, lavender, rosewood. These ingredients are natural and don't cause harm to the skin.

The main point to take away from this blog is always to check the ingredients before purchasing.
